The Veterans of Foreign Wars
The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States is a nonprofit veterans service organization comprised of eligible veterans and military service members from the active, Guard and Reserve forces. Founded in 1899 and chartered by Congress in 1936, the VFW is the nation's largest organization of war veterans.
Our Mission
To foster camaraderie among United States veterans of overseas conflicts. To serve our veterans, the military, and our communities. To advocate on behalf of all veterans.
VFW Post 1197
Batavia Overseas VFW Post 1197 has proudly served veterans and the Batavia community since 1946. Located along the scenic Fox River, our post provides a welcoming home where veterans can connect, share experiences, and support one another.
Our post has maintained a strong working relationship with the Kane County Veterans Assistance Commission for over 40 years, helping countless veterans navigate the benefits system and access the services they've earned through their sacrifice.

Our Facility
Our property spans over 6 acres along the Fox River, featuring:
- Two event rooms (Admirals Room and Captains Room)
- Recently updated bar and carpeting
- Large outdoor areas with picnic tables
- Space for baseball, volleyball, and games
- Shaded and open areas for outdoor events
- Full bar service available
As a nonprofit organization, all proceeds from venue rentals and events help us maintain our facility and provide services to veterans and the community. When you celebrate with us, you're supporting those who served.
